Elections

There are several different kinds of elections within the Constituency:

  • Parliamentary

  • Local Government

  • Police and Crime Commissioner

  • Town and Parish Councils

Parliamentary

Our Member of Parliament is Adam Afriyie MP. He was first elected following the General Election in 2005.

General Elections are usually held every 5 years on the first Thursday in May. However, an election may be triggered where a motion of no confidence is passed in Her Majesty's Government by a simple majority and 14 days elapses without the House passing a confidence motion in any new Government formed, or a motion for a general election is agreed by two thirds of the total number of seats in the Commons including vacant seats.

Local Government

In the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and Bracknell Forest Council, elections are held every 4 years and the next elections are in 2019.

In Slough Borough Council, elections are held annually on a rolling basis. In Colnbrook with Poyle Ward (the only Slough Borough Council Ward in the Windsor Constituency), there are 2 Councillors. An election was held in 2018 for the first position, and an election will be held in 2019 for the second position.

Police and Crime Commissioner

Elections for Police and Crime Commissioners are held every 4 years. The last election was in 2016, so the next election will be in 2020.

The current Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley Police is Anthony Stansfeld (Conservative).
