Today, Post Office Chairman, Nigel Railton announced a swathe of branches were at risk as part of a franchising business model transition within the company.

With this came a list of 115 potential closures across the country, which included the popular Peascod Road branch in central Windsor.

In a letter to Mr Railton, Jack expressed that he was “dismayed” to learn that the branch had been earmarked for closure in the plans.

He said that the post office is “always full” and cited a report from Citizens Advice which emphasised the critical role of post offices to people of all ages and small businesses.

According to the Post Office’s own 2023 Network Report, the presence of post offices in town centres and high streets has contributed £3.1 billion in additional local spending, with two in five visits to a Post Office resulting in money spent in neighbouring shops and premises. Jack argued that the Peascod Road branch therefore “acts as an invaluable support structure for Windsor’s small businesses to thrive.”

Should Windsor Post Office be closed, it would force residents of Windsor town to travel to the Clewer or Dedworth Green branches, which sit 1.4 and 1.7 miles from the Peascod Road branch respectively.

In addition to the letter – where he requested a meeting with a “senior representative of the Post Office” - Jack has launched a petition on his website for local residents to sign their name to Save Windsor Post Office.
